The latter decades saw a rise in the popularity of yoga for those aiming for an integrated physical, mental and emotional wellness and good health, because it isn't hard to learn. Beginners to yoga must first know what it really is about and what they can get from it.

“Yoga” is an ancient Sanskrit word. Sanskrit is the old tongue spoken by the Brahman caste, considered the elite in India. The Sanskrit translation of ‘yoga’ means ‘to yoke,’ or ‘to unite.Others define it as 'joining,' 'uniting,' 'union,' 'contemplation,' 'absorption' or 'conjunction.Jainism is one school of Hinduism, where yoga translates as 'the sum total of all activities - mental, physical and verbal. ' Thus, the logical interpretation of Yoga would be an integrating or unifying activity. In this regard, Yoga can put integration into your life in several ways.

The goal of yoga is the unification of mind and body. The road to modernization brought with it the disconnection of these two facets from each other. It’s not rare to hear a description of feeling out of touch with the body. The separation that has occurred between mind and body can be called the culprit in that situation. The anxieties of daily existence can get too overwhelming and make you feel like buckling down under all the pressures. This could be just a severe case and most situations are less so, but it is a fact that there is mind and body separation taking place worldwide.

Yoga could be the way towards reconnecting your heart and mind and body. The reintegration will provide you with the opportunity to take pleasure in your life, cope with daily pressures and value life in its every aspect.

Yoga also aims to fix the separation of our feelings or emotions from our logical mind. Like the detachment between our mind and body that we feel now and then, most of the time we focus on keeping our emotions in check, ending up trying to rationalize our feelings. If this develops into a pattern, we're going to be faced with critical health concerns. It is important to note that emotions, especially the negatives like anger or frustration, should be articulated or allowed release. Or else these would amass inside us and transform into stress-induced illnesses, the channel for their release. The characteristic of yoga to raise our awareness level (of our emotions and bodies) is a venue for the letting go of these emotions before they can do any damage.

Yoga is really a potent instrument for the combination of our physical and psychological aspects. As your awareness level rises, you also begin to realize that you are not an entity in yourself but you are just a fraction of a bigger whole. Yoga is based on a complete philosophy and induces in the practitioner a connection with all that is around him or her. The oneness of all sides to your being with your surroundings is the basis of complete wellness and personal growth. We don't have to wonder why yoga continues to be popular all these centuries and has become a basic part in the daily routines of people.

Yoga has the capacity to improve your personal growth. It can aid your re-unification with your true emotions and harmonize your emotional side. It can support your aim to be more complete and more authentic and less disjointed. There would be less necessity for wanting to fake things, you’d be more at ease just being yourself. You can then look forward to enhanced relations with other people since your enhanced self-awareness and acceptance, through Yoga, would give you that capacity.
